Coach and seat questions
How are sleeper berths numbered?
A sleeper (SL) or AC 3-tier (3A) coach is made of bays of eight: 1 lower, 2 middle, 3 upper, 4 lower, 5 middle, 6 upper, then 7 side lower and 8 side upper across the aisle. Bay two starts at 9, so berths 1, 9, 17 … are lower berths.
How are AC 2-tier berths numbered?
AC 2-tier (2A) bays have six berths: 1 lower, 2 upper, 3 lower, 4 upper, 5 side lower and 6 side upper.
Which chair car seats are by the window?
AC Chair Car (CC) rows have three seats on one side of the aisle and two on the other: in each row of five, the first and last seats are by the window. Executive Chair Car (EC) rows are two plus two.
Where is my coach on the platform?
The coach order is shown on the train page when we have it, engine end first. Stations also show it on coach position boards before the train arrives; trust those on the day.
