About WhereIsTheTrain — our mission

WhereIsTheTrain (ट्रेन कहाँ है?) is a free train tracking platform for India. We help passengers see where their train is, check timetables and plan journeys across the whole Indian Railways network.

Our mission is to make train travel in India more transparent and predictable — using only open data and the help of passengers. Whether you are travelling from Mumbai to Delhi, Chennai to Kolkata or anywhere in between, WhereIsTheTrain shows where your train is likely to be and how it is running.

Our services

  • Train tracking — every running train on a map
  • Complete schedules — timetables for every train
  • Station information — codes, locations and upcoming trains
  • Delay updates — live delay and status for every run
  • 12 Indian languages — use the site in your own language
  • 3D live map — follow a train along the real track

Data sources

Timetables and stations come from open data (the DataMeet Indian Railways dataset, OpenStreetMap and Wikidata). A train's position is estimated from its timetable and its recent delays, and corrected in real time by passengers on board who share their location. Every page shows where its data comes from and how recent it is.

Open source

WhereIsTheTrain is built on open data and community contributions. Corrections to timetables and stations are welcome and help everyone get reliable train information.
